Our 16g welded wire mesh is hot dipped galvanized, and is sourced from high quality manufacturers. Welded wire mesh has a square hole, which provides more structure than chicken wire netting.

This product is a medium-weight welded wire mesh, which can be used for domestic cat pens and other animal enclosures (including fox proof chicken enclosures and rabbit enclosures, small to medium sized dog enclosures). It is also a good choice for general garden use and fencing applications. The 16 gauge wire (approx. 1.6mm thick) makes the mesh stronger and more rigid than chicken wire netting or light-weight welded mesh. The mesh has a hot dipped galvanized finish to protect against rusting.

Specification

  • Material: Mild Steel.

  • Finish: Hot Dipped Galvanized.

  • Hole size: 25mm (1 inch).

  • Wire thickness: 16 gauge (1.6mm).

  • Weight per square metre: Approx. 1114 grams.

  • Roll Heights: The heights of the rolls are manufactured to imperial measurements (feet and inches). We have rounded down the metric height conversions for simplicity. The accurate metric heights are as follows: 610mm (2ft) high; 915mm (3ft) high; 1220mm (4ft) high; 1830mm (6ft) high.

All measurements +/- 15%. If you require a micrometer reading of the wire thickness then please call us on 01782 820 970.

Hi

I currently have a huge galvanised chicken pen which has pvc coated mesh -fairly heavy duty (all came as a kit) however the foxes chewed through the wire mesh so I need to re enforce it all and not sure what grade or size of mesh I will need so the foxes can't chew through it.

Many Thanks

Good Morning,

We have two different sizes of mesh that will both fox proof your chicken enclosure.

The galvanised welded mesh 25mm x 25mm (16 gauge) and also the welded mesh 50mm x 50mm (14 gauge).

Hello,

I need some chicken wire mesh to protect my bulbs from pesky grey squirrels!! I have lost half my stock for this years flowers so far as they keep digging them up the little monkeys!!

What size would you recommend and how much is delivery??

Thank you for your enquiry,

You really need 25mm x 25mm - 16g welded mesh to keep squirrels out.

Delivery orders under £60.00 - £6.98
orders over £60 carriage paid.

Hi, is the 25mm wire netting fox proof?

Thank you for your enquiry.
The 25mm wire netting is not suitable to protect against foxes.
I would suggest using either the 40mm wire netting (suitable for fox protection) or the 25mm x 25mm 16 gauge welded wire mesh.

Hi, we are making a chicken enclosure 18'x10'x 6' high, could you please tell me what materials you would recommend? we have all the timber, we need wire etc. Many Thanks

Thank you for your enquiry.

An enclosure 18ft x 10ft is approximately 5.5m x 3m in metric measurements. By my calculations, for a four sided enclosure with a roof you will require approximately 28 linear metres at 6ft high.

We offer a 6ft high welded fox proof mesh in a 1inch x 1inch hole, with a 16 gauge thick wire. Please note that the mesh on the roof will need to be supported with timber cross members.

You will also require some staples to fit the mesh onto your wooden frame. We either offer 20mm hammer in “U” shaped staples, or we can offer a staple tacker and staples.

We carry all of the items in stock, and so delivery would be free to TN12 and takes 2 to 3 working days.

I would like to build a couple of chicken houses. Instead of having wooden floors I would like to use mesh so that their droppings fall through onto the ground. The mesh would need to be strong enough to support the weight of the chickens when they walk to the perches. Using a piece of wood attached to the walls of the hen house to support the outer edges of the mesh. Can you please advise me on the thickness of the wire needed to meet this requirement.

Thank you for your enquiry.

We would suggest either a 25 x 25 mm hole or a 13 x 13 mm hole 16 gauge in galvanized welded mesh.

Do you sell the 2 foot high mesh to prevent rabbits and foxes in heavy duty (thicker than 19 gauge)?

Thank you for the e-mail.

For both fox and rabbit protection you would need a 25mm x 25mm hole (1” x 1”) in a 16 gauge wire.
We offer a 2 ft wide roll in our premium European made mesh.

Reviews

good stuff

I have used Mesh Direct for any years in any different gardens. The mesh is good quality and the service is excellent. I am just about to order more. - by scottkent

Friendly Service

I just wanted to say thank you - the young lady I spoke to on the phone when I called for advice was very helpful and friendly and when I went ahead with my order it arrived within two days and was exactly what I needed. All too often, especially with online businesses, customer service is lacking and contact with a real person is difficult. In this case nothing could be further from the truth. I would happily recommend Mesh Direct. Thank you for a convenient and friendly service. - by J.S from Ferndown

Outstanding service

Thank you so much for your outstanding service and very prompt delivery, also your advise as to correct mesh that I required for my first time ever of keeping chickens was invaluable, I have already advised people that I have spoken to of your most excellent service, I wish all companies that I have dealt with performed as well as you.
Thank You Again

Delivery Information

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information

We are processing and dispatching orders as normal, and orders are usually dispatched either the same day or the next Working Day. Due to high pressures on all courier networks, some delays and split deliveries may be possible (please allow up to 2 Working Days for Express Deliveries and up to 4 Working Days for Standard Deliveries, excluding weekends and Bank Holidays). A slightly longer lead time may apply to certain postcodes, but this will be made clear in the Delivery Options at the Checkout.

Having anticipated short supplies of goods at the beginning of the year, we have filled our warehouse with stock. Whilst a certain product may be out of stock on our website, we will have an alternative option available which will be in stock – please feel free to ask our live chat agents for alternatives if you cannot find a suitable product for your application.

We may find that over the next few days or weeks that the speed of service we take pride in providing may be delayed slightly, either due to the requirement for staff members to self-isolate, or due to the pressures on the courier networks. Should this issue arise, we will do our very best to keep you fully informed, and rest assured that we will do everything possible to dispatch and deliver your order. If we could ask that you bear with us that would be very much appreciated, especially in the case of potential delivery issues. Some delivery delays may be unavoidable, as all UK courier networks are at full capacity due to  unprecedented levels of deliveries, combined with a potential shortage of drivers due to self-isolation requirements.
