Our stainless steel insect mesh is perfect for keeping out flies and other insects. The mesh is woven to achieve a small hole size of 1.36mm x 1.36mm. Given that the material is flexible, it may need the support of a frame to add rigidity. We offer a range of roll widths and lengths to suit various applications. The 10cm to 30cm wide rolls are ideal for use on soffits, or behind cladding. The wider rolls are perfect for producing insect screens, or for covering larger areas such as roofs.

Stainless steel is highly resistant to rust, and is the best option for a long lasting insect mesh. Stainless steel is also the preferred option for food preparation areas, as it is a hygienic material and can be cleaned easily. We offer the insect mesh in either standard grade 304 stainless steel, or the higher quality grade 316 stainless steel (sometimes called Marine Grade). Grade 316 stainless steel contains molybdenum, which is added to boost its resistance to corrosion and should be selected if the material is to be used in a salt water or coastal environment. Please note that from time to time we may substitute grade 304 stainless steel for the higher quality grade 316 stainless steel (unless we are requested not to do so).

For areas that are likely to come into regular contact with people, such as windows and doors, we offer a heavier duty stainless steel insect mesh. Our Heavy Duty Insect Mesh has a thicker wire for increased strength, making it the perfect option for high traffic areas.

If you are looking for an insect mesh with an even smaller hole, then we offer an Extra Fine Insect Mesh which has a 0.45mm x 0.45mm hole size. This mesh is a good option for very small midges.

Hi- I would like some mesh to put round the cowl on my chimney, to stop bees going in, and maybe to keep mosquitoes from breeding in water tanks. The woven ali looks possible, but how is it with heat from a woodburner and letting the smoke out? Should I get a 2mm or 2.5 mm mesh for the chimney?

Thank you for the enquiry.

If it is just bees that you wish to keep out, we would normally recommend our woven stainless steel 8 Mesh as this is typically used for beekeeping. This product has an open area of 60% i.e. it will allow 60% of the airflow through – you may need to check that this is sufficient to allow the smoke to escape from your chimney. The advantage of this material is that it is a lot more rigid than insect mesh, due to the 0.71mm thick wire. The 8 Mesh is sold by the linear metre.

If you are also looking to keep out other insects, such as mosquitoes, then the stainless steel insect mesh would be a better choice than the woven aluminium. Stainless steel is typically used for chimney liners where a woodburner has been installed, so there shouldn’t be an issue with the heat.

Hi, I am looking for a mesh that I could use as an insect screen for an Awning, it would be fitted into the inside of the Plastic opening windows and I am not sure whether the plastic flyscreen or the fibreglass mesh would suit best.

Thank you for the enquiry.

Assuming that you would be looking to roll the insect mesh away when you pack up the awning, then the fiberglass insect mesh may be more suitable. It is very flexible (almost cloth-like), but it is a strong material.

Please can you tell me the overall thickness of the mesh? I want to machine a slot in the timber for the mesh to slide into.

The wire thickness for the soffit mesh is 0.22mm, therefore the overall thickness of the material would be 0.44mm. Please note, however, that there is always a tolerance of the wire thickness and so measurements may vary slightly.

Is this a woven mesh or is it an expanded metal mesh? If woven what holds the edge wires in place?

Thank you for your enquiry.

The soffit mesh is woven. The material is finely knitted together, which holds the strands of wire in place. However, if you pull the outer strand of wire then you can pull it out.

If you would like to see the material then we would be happy to send a small sample in the post.

What grade roll of mesh would I require for putting at bottom of wood cladding on my house to stop insects

Thank-you for your e-mail.

We offer two grades of stainless steel, grade 304 and grade 316. Both are highly resistant to corrosion, however the grade 316 is a higher quality grade of stainless that is even more resistant. Therefore, we tend to recommend grade 316 in areas with a higher level of corrosion, such as coastal areas or areas with higher levels of pollution.

Both options have been used by our customers for cladding, and both options are suitable for keeping the insects out.

Kind regards

Hi,

How do I attach the mesh to my PVC window frame?

Thank you for your enquiry.

As we are only merchants, unfortunately we don’t have any experience with fitting. However, the best option may be to frame the insect mesh, and then attach the frame to the window or screw the frame into the wall around the PVC window frame.

Can you please advise which soffit insect mesh would be best for an exposed seaside location on the West of Scotland? Thank you.

Thank you for your enquiry.
The product that would last the longest would be stainless steel woven fly screen Grade 316 (Marine grade).

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information

We are processing and dispatching orders as normal, and orders are usually dispatched either the same day or the next Working Day. Due to high pressures on all courier networks, some delays and split deliveries may be possible (please allow up to 2 Working Days for Express Deliveries and up to 4 Working Days for Standard Deliveries, excluding weekends and Bank Holidays). A slightly longer lead time may apply to certain postcodes, but this will be made clear in the Delivery Options at the Checkout.

Whilst a certain product may be out of stock on our website, we will have an alternative option available which will be in stock – please feel free to ask our live chat agents for alternatives if you cannot find a suitable product for your application.

We may find that over the next few days or weeks that the speed of service we take pride in providing may be delayed slightly, either due to the requirement for staff members to self-isolate, or due to the pressures on the courier networks. Should this issue arise, we will do our very best to keep you fully informed, and rest assured that we will do everything possible to dispatch and deliver your order. If we could ask that you bear with us that would be very much appreciated, especially in the case of potential delivery issues. Some delivery delays may be unavoidable, as all UK courier networks are at full capacity due to  unprecedented levels of deliveries, combined with a potential shortage of drivers due to self-isolation requirements.
