Stainless Woven Fly Screen
High quality stainless steel insect mesh. Available in 7.5cm to 30cm wide rolls, and 1.2m wide rolls.
Description
Our stainless steel insect mesh is perfect for keeping out flies and other insects. The mesh is woven to achieve a small hole size of 1.36mm x 1.36mm. Given that the material is flexible, it may need the support of a frame to add rigidity. We offer a range of roll widths and lengths to suit various applications. The 10cm to 30cm wide rolls are ideal for use on soffits, or behind cladding. The wider rolls are perfect for producing insect screens, or for covering larger areas such as roofs.
Stainless steel is highly resistant to rust, and is the best option for a long lasting insect mesh. Stainless steel is also the preferred option for food preparation areas, as it is a hygienic material and can be cleaned easily. Grade 304 stainless steel is the standard grade, and suitable for most applications.
For areas that are likely to come into regular contact with people, such as windows and doors, we offer a heavier duty stainless steel insect mesh. Our Heavy Duty Insect Mesh has a thicker wire for increased strength, making it the perfect option for high traffic areas.
If you are looking for an insect mesh with an even smaller hole, then we offer an Extra Fine Insect Mesh which has a 0.45mm x 0.45mm hole size. This mesh is a good option for very small midges.

FAQ
FAQs
Does stainless steel fly screen mesh rust if fitted permanently outdoors?
Stainless steel is highly resistant to rust and is the best option for a long lasting insect mesh, making it the strongest choice for permanent outdoor installations over other insect mesh options. Over time, it is possible for stainless steel to develop a brown discolouration, sometimes known as "tea-staining". The discolouration is normally just an aesthetic issue, and doesn't materially affect the integrity of the mesh. Also, tea-staining can usually be washed off using warm water and washing-up liquid. To mitigate against tea-staining we would recommend periodically cleaning the stainless steel mesh every few months. If this isn't possible then don't worry, your stainless steel insect mesh will still last for many years.
Is Grade 304 stainless steel insect mesh suitable for food preparation areas or anywhere hygiene matters?
Yes - stainless steel is the preferred option for food preparation areas as it is highly resistant to rusting and is a hygienic material that can be cleaned down easily, helping to keep your food area safe. This product is Grade 304 stainless steel with a silver finish and no surface coating.
Will a 1.36mm stainless steel mesh keep out very small insects like midges, or do I need a finer mesh?
The 1.36mm x 1.36mm aperture will keep out house flies, bluebottles, bees, wasps and most common household insects, but you may need a finer hole size for very small insects such as midges or fruit flies. For those insects, Mesh Direct offers an Extra Fine Insect Mesh with a 0.45mm x 0.45mm aperture. Customers dealing with particularly small insects should consider the Extra Fine version rather than this product.
Which width of stainless steel roll do I need for fitting behind roof cladding or in a soffit vent?
The 10cm wide up to 30cm wide rolls are great for use on soffits, or behind cladding, and all of the roll width options in stainless woven fly screen mesh - 1.2m, 7.5cm, 10cm, 15cm, 20cm, and 30cm - are available in 30 metre lengths to cover a large area from a single roll. For open roof areas or larger insect screens, the 1.2m wide roll is the appropriate choice, available in 6m, 15m, and 30m lengths.
Does this stainless steel fly screen need a frame to stay in place, or is it rigid enough to hold its shape on its own?
Stainless steel insect mesh may require the support of a frame, for example open-span uses such as window screens require a timber or aluminium frame to add rigidity. Behind cladding or inside a soffit channel, the surrounding structure typically acts as the frame and usually no additional support is required.
