Woven stainless steel mesh is used for a large number of applications, including filtration, ventilation, machine guards, pest proofing. Our woven 2 Mesh is a reasonably rigid material. Although the mesh is manufactured on a roll, when flattened the mesh will be panel-like.
The mesh count refers to how many holes there are on a linear inch on the material i.e. if you place a ruler on the mesh, our 2 Mesh would have 2 holes per linear inch.
We can offer either standard grade 304 stainless steel, or the higher quality grade 316 stainless steel (sometimes called Marine Grade). Grade 316 stainless steel contains molybdenum, which is added to boost its resistance to corrosion and should be selected if the material is to be used in a salt water or coastal environment.
Please note that from time to time we may substitute grade 304 stainless steel for the higher quality grade 316 stainless steel (unless we are requested not to do so). Also, our heavier woven mesh may be supplied in either a crimped finish or a plain weave finish. If the finish is critical to your application, please call us on 01782 820 970 for confirmation on which finish is available. Samples are supplied from off-cuts of the woven mesh, and so may alternate between Grade 304 and Grade 316 stainless steel.
The material is priced per linear metre on the website.
All measurements +/- 5%. If you require a micrometer reading of the wire thickness then please call us on 01782 820 970.
Hi, you kindly sent us some Stainless Mesh samples. The client is asking us what life span would be expected for a Marine Environment.
Please see below a link from the British Stainless Steel Association website which provides some information on lifespan:
As you can see, the estimate for corrosion to penetrate 1mm in a marine environment with grade 304 stainless steel would be approx. 145 years (as opposed to 260 years for grade 316). Although this seems like a long time, some pitting and staining of the grade 304 material may occur relatively quickly in a marine environment, which obviously has an impact from an aesthetic point of view.
Generally speaking, grade 316 stainless is the preferred option in marine environments. However, any stainless steel option will be preferable to a galvanized finish mild steel option.
I need to fit wire mesh to a balcony to make it child safe please advise.
Thank you for the e-mail.
Unfortunately, we are not able to advise on a suitable mesh for this purpose. We would recommend that you consult either an architect / engineer, or a specialist safety barrier or balustrade company.
If you are able to determine the specification of mesh you require for the application, then we can quote for the material.
Hello, I'm looking to purchase a metal mesh (can be PVC coated in black) to use as a cover over a saltwater aquarium to prevent fish jumping out.
Do you think the stainless steel mesh with 13mmx13mm holes is sturdy enough to be unsupported over a 1mx2m area? If not, could you suggest something similar with aperture range of 10mm - 20mm. Thanks
Thank you for the enquiry.
The 19 gauge mesh would be too flexible to be self-supporting over a 2m section, and so you would need at least a 16 gauge wire (1.6mm thick) to provide sufficient rigidity.
The other consideration is that the mesh will be in a saltwater aquarium. For mesh used in and around saltwater we would strongly recommend using the higher grade of stainless steel i.e. grade 316. This is substantially more resistant to corrosion in saltwater and marine environments.
The option we have available for a grade 316 stainless steel mesh, with the hole size and wire thickness required, would be our woven stainless steel 2 Mesh (this has an aperture of 11mm, and a wire thickness of 1.6mm). Please note that a woven mesh should be framed - given that the mesh is woven together, the frame will prevent the mesh from moving around, or the outer strands from pulling out. Once framed, the mesh will be panel-like.
Please feel free to call on 01782 820 970, or e-mail if you have any further questions.
Thanks, It arrived today, most impressed.
Many thanks for everything, excellent system and been a pleasure,
As I live in France there was a problem with your site accepting payment. I tried with a sterling Paypal account a Barclaycard Visa credit and a Barclaycard Visa debit without success. A quick phone call solved it all and your sales lady was very helpful and efficient, payment was made and the goods are now on their way.
